Professional Experience
Jean-Pierre S. Lavielle is a member of the firm’s Tax Practice. He concentrates on U.S. domestic corporate taxation and on complex cross-border transactions. Over the past 25 years, Jean-Pierre has served U.S. and European corporations in the United States and in France, ranging from start-ups to multibillion-dollar listed companies and encompassing a wide range of industries such as retail, pharmaceuticals, services, defense and aerospace, banking and finance, energy, computer manufacturing, and automotive. His experience embraces all the domestic and international tax aspects of the major events in the lives of corporations and pass-through entities: incorporation, taxable and tax free reorganizations, inbound and outbound transfers of assets, transfer pricing issues, acquisitions and divestitures, and liquidation. Jean-Pierre is also a licensed CPA. His strong accounting background enables him to assess the impact of strategic tax decisions upon his clients’ financial statements.
Because Jean-Pierre has one foot in the United States and the other in Europe, he understands the legal, cultural, and linguistic differences Europeans and Americans face when doing business in each other’s markets.
Prior to joining Becker & Poliakoff, LLP, Jean-Pierre was a tax partner at an Asia-focused Paris based law firm, and he led the tax department of the Paris office of a prominent New York law firm.
